Animals

The Cherokee County Humane Society could use people like YOU to volunteer your time helping at their animal shelters. Days and times are flexible!

Children/Youth

Mentoring (Big Brother/Big Sister Program)

Be a positive role model for children. Days and times are flexible!

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

Help an abused and neglected child find what every child deserves - a safe, loving home. Speak up for a child in court by volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. You will learn how to learn more, when to apply, how you will be screened to assure this is the right volunteer job for you, how you will be trained for this powerful and important role, and how big a time commitment you will need to make in your life.

Tahlequah Learning Centers (TLC)

Assist in improving academic success of children, providing a safe place for children, and enriching the lives of children by volunteering your time in an after school program.

“Teacher for the Day”

Show your support of the Tahlequah Public School system in this time of need by covering a classroom in the absence of a teacher. You can specify preference of grade level and/or subject matter. You may also designate days of availability. There will be free substitute training for those interested.

Smart Start

Volunteer and earn an Education Award that can be applied to current college expenses or student loans, or saved for future expenses such as graduate or professional school.

Things you may be doing as a Smart Start member:

  • · Tutoring a student in a particular subject area.
  • · Mentoring a young person or adult to encourage their successful college preparation.
  • · Helping staff a Saturday or weekend program.
  • · Other activities that help more students see college as an option and become better prepared to reach their goals of becoming college graduates.

Domestic Violence

Help-In-Crisis utilizes a combination of professional, para-professional and trained volunteer staff to achieve its goals. Everyone possesses a talent that can be useful. Whether your talent is organization, fund raising, household repairs, public speaking, plumbing, running errands, stuffing envelopes or answering the crisis line, you can be an active volunteer. Let Help-In-Crisis put your time and energy to good use. Short term and long term volunteer opportunities are always available. The Help-In-Crisis mission is to eliminate family violence and sexual assault through education, counseling, support, and prevention services.

Bill Willis Community Mental Health & Substance Abuse Center

  • · Providing companionship to a terminally ill patient or their family

Qualifications: (all of the following will be provided to you at no cost)

  • · 8-10 hours of training
  • · CPR Certification
  • · TB skin test
  • · Must submit urine analysis
  • · Hepatitis B Vaccination

Responsibilities: Assisting visitors, writing and designing of promotional material, assisting office staff in office duties.
