
TAHLEQUAH—Avid entrepreneur Randy Alvarado will present the Northeastern State University Battenfield–Carletti Distinguished Entrepreneur Lecture on Wednesday‚ Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. in the NSU NET Auditorium. A Q&A session will follow at 11:00 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
An executive management guru who started his first company at the age of 13‚ Alvarado has owned or operated six different companies and traveled to 23 countries on five continents during his 20–year career.
His early experience includes working at the White House in the Office of the Vice President during the first Bush Administration.
Most recently he was President and CEO of Martin Bionics‚ a company specializing in advanced prosthetic technologies. The company was selected as "Innovator of the Year" in 2008.
Prior to Martin Bionics‚ Alvarado was the President and CEO of Advancia Corporation‚ an $18 million company‚ with 300 employees in eight office locations across the U.S. Advancia was selected as one of the "Ten most prominent companies in Oklahoma" by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
With his previous experience having been primarily in the high–tech sector‚ Alvarado's seventh company‚ is taking his life a somewhat different track. Eager now to get back to his childhood love and follow his passions‚ his newest venture will assist photographers in marketing and selling their content.
Alvarado also enjoys traveling to developing countries to photograph the work of nonprofits He is author of the book‚ "Nicaragua: One week with Manos Juntas" a photographic essay.
He has served on numerous boards‚ to include the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce‚ the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma‚ United Way of Oklahoma City‚ and the International Photography Museum and Hall of Fame. Alvarado earned a marketing degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Alvarado's lifelong goal is to promote creativity worldwide so it's taught alongside literacy.
Established in 2002 by Dr. Harold Battenfield and Dr. John Carletti through the NSU Foundation‚ the Battenfield–Carletti distinguished Entrepreneur Lecture Series brings NSU alumni and friends to campus to share their entrepreneurial experiences with students.
