Vice President for Administration and Finance

Northeastern State University (Oklahoma) invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Administration and Finance. The Vice President for Administration and Finance is the Chief Financial Officer for the University and reports directly to the President. A member of the University Cabinet, the Vice President serves as the chief advisor to the President on financial matters, and is responsible for providing ethical leadership, management, and the general oversight of the administrative and finance functions for the fiscal management of the university’s resources.

The successful candidate for this position will be a thoughtful, diplomatic, and collaborative leader serving as a key contributor to the senior executive team at NSU, providing leadership to the institution in team-building, principle-based management, creative entrepreneurial and proactive problem-solving, sound fiscal practices, ethical management practices, empowerment of employees, effective communications, and is responsible for the development and implementation of university-wide policies and procedures involving financial and administrative service areas.

Prospective candidates should have a record of successful and innovative leadership experience. Primary duties include the following:

  • · Plan, develop, direct, and coordinate fiscal management matters of the university, including operating and capital budgets and long-range financial planning and analysis.
  • · In collaboration with Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, provides leadership to the University’s strategic planning and budgeting processes.
  • · Directs the university’s financial operations including accounting, budgeting, reporting and auditing and maintains reporting and operational relationships with the Regional University System of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education offices.
  • · Provides leadership and direction for all finance and administration division departments including Accounting Services, Purchasing, Payroll, Budget, University Information Technology, Human Resources, Physical Plant, Grants and Contract Administration, Campus Safety, Campus Police, Risk Management, and Auxiliary Services.
  • · Advises the President on university business issues and the fiscal impact of policy options. Provides financial analysis, long-range financial projections and long-term planning.
  • · Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates division directors and selected other staff.
  • · Ensures university compliance with applicable federal and state statutes and regulations regarding accounting, purchasing, payroll, contracting and fiscal reporting policies and procedures. Reviews legislation, code and policies and procedures, and recommends the development of or revision to university policies and procedures.
  • · Negotiates and administers contracts and agreements with the assistance of legal counsel.
MBA or Master’s degree in a related business, finance or higher education area preferred. CPA and university experience preferred. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and staff at all levels, history of personal and professional integrity, and effective written and oral communication skills.
