Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Northeastern State University (Oklahoma) invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. NSU is seeking a vibrant, engaged leader to help the institution chart its second century. As the chief academic officer of the University, the Provost/Vice President builds the leadership team in all areas relating to academic affairs. The academic and professional deans of the University report to the vice president, as do academic support services and outreach, and University Libraries. The Provost/Academic Vice President reports directly to the President of the University and will act for him in his absence.

Currently celebrating its centennial year with roots tracing 163 years to the founding of the Cherokee Male and Female Seminaries, Northeastern State is the oldest and largest public university in eastern Oklahoma with an enrollment approaching 10,000 and more than 340 full-time faculty. With its core values of integrity, excellence, creativity, leadership and collaboration, NSU is dedicated to preparing students to be productive, creative and socially responsible global citizens by creating and sustaining a culture of learning and discovery.

The University, with its historic home campus in Tahlequah, the capital of the Cherokee Nation, and branch campuses in Broken Arrow (Tulsa metro) and Muskogee, currently offers seventy-seven undergraduate and graduate degrees, and a doctorate in Optometry. Course delivery is also provided at other locations within the eastern portion of the State.

Prospective candidates should have a record of successful and innovative experience in higher education leadership, administration and teaching. Qualifications sought include the following:

  • · Passion for leading, learning and serving faculty, staff and students
  • · An entrepreneurial spirit interested in leading a proactive growth and development agenda
  • · Join the leadership team engaged in academic program prioritization and Higher Learning Commission reaccreditation processes
  • · Ability to effectively represent the university globally and locally
  • · A collegial, consultative and open management style
  • · Appreciation and advancement of the university’s regional stewardship role
  • · Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • · Knowledge of budgeting, funding procedures, and long-range academic planning
  • · Commitment to actively promote and encourage faculty development and scholarship
  • · Consistent encouragement of undergraduate and graduate research
  • · Persistent advocate of distance education and enhanced use of technology
  • · Sensitivity to gender and diversity issues and affirmative action principles
  • · Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials
