Assistantship
A limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available each year at Northeastern State University.
Qualifications for an Assistantship
- Must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must be fully admitted as a regular student to Graduate College and qualify for regular admission to a graduate degree program of study. This qualification excludes students admitted on a probationary, temporary, or provisional basis. You must have a degree plan on file and have taken your entrance exam.
- The assistantship recipient must enroll in and complete a minimum of six hours and a maximum of twelve hours of graduate coursework each semester while serving as a graduate assistant. The final semester of the student's enrollment may be less than six hours provided all courses for the degree are being completed. International students must enroll in a minimum of nine hours to meet federal regulations.
- The graduate assistant may teach a maximum of nine semester hours per semester or serve a maximum of thirty clock hours per week in a laboratory or other non-teaching position.
- Additional criteria will be determined by the employing department and the nature of the particular assignment
Download the Assistantship application (pdf) or pick one up in the Graduate College office. Completed application forms are forwarded to the Graduate College for determination of eligibility. When approved, a copy of the application is forwarded to the appropriate academic unit. Academic Units interview and determine employment of the applicant.
The applicant is responsible for contacting the appropriate administrator to apply for the position in which he/she is interested. Applications must be renewed in the fall of each year.
Graduate assistants receive $1,000 per semester for teaching three hours or working ten hours per week; $2,000 for teaching six hours or working twenty hours per week; and $3,000 for teaching nine hours or working thirty hours per week. Graduate assistants are eligible for six hours of tuition waiver granted by the academic unit.
