Student FAQs

1. Why don*t I get my mail as soon as it arrives?

Mail is delivered in the morning to the main facility, but it then needs to be sorted for all Students, Faculty. and Staff.  Mail for students is sorted into each Dorm. That mail is delivered and sorted by the Drop Zone staff  into the Dorm Mail Boxes, no later than 2pm Monday  - Friday. Mail for Faculty and Staff is sorted in the morning for delivery on the Mail run schedule. NSU Postal Services receives and delivers approximately 6,000 pieces of mail per day.

2. My mail is always delayed. Why?

Domestic mail generally arrives to our facility in 2 - 4 days from most Continental US cities. It would be helpful if we could examine any delayed mail you may have. Often there are identifying marks on an envelope that pinpoint the cause of a delay. lf you have questions or concerns please bring the mail item to the Service window at The Drop Zone.

Some common causes of delays in delivery are:

  • · The mail piece was improperly addressed (NSU Postal Services does not accept responsibility for the delivery of misaddressed or insufficiently addressed).
  • · The mail piece was damaged in processing and is undeliverable.
  • · The mail piece was misdirected by the USPS due to incorrect Zip code or illegible handwriting and is still in the delivery process.
  • · USPS mail volume has increased due to a holiday and all mail is experiencing delays.

3. I was sent a letter or package via UPS or USPS Express delivery and someone else signed for it. Why?

To expedite campus deliveries NSU Mail Services signs for all incoming USPS Express and Certified Mail. Shipping and Receiving signs for all student UPS, Fed Exp and all other Carrier deliveries. We receive large quantities of accountable mail each day and have designated personnel to sign for all accountable mail, NSU Mail Services and Shipping & Receiving keeps a daily log of all mail requiring a signature.

4. My package arrived with the contents broken. What do I do now?

Immediately report any irregularities in delivery, possible theft, tampering and/or
destruction of mail to NSU Drop Zone that we can determine whether this is an isolated incident, or cause for further action. Also bear in mind that generally mail has not been stolen, but is probably experiencing a delay due to:
